We were chosen…
Long ago before he even made the world God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His plan all along was to adopt us as his own children through Jesus Christ. We are identified as God’s own children through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us everything that he promised to us. This is another reason to give praise to our glorious God.
Paul prayed constantly for others, thanking God for them, praying for spiritual wisdom, and understanding in the knowledge of God. Praying that they will be flooded with light that they can understand the wonderful future God has promised them. Paul prays that the people will understand the great power of God for us who believe in him. The same power that raised Christ from the dead. Christ is now seated beside God and he is the head of the church, we the church are the body, which is filled by Christ who fills everything with his presence.
We used to be dead and doomed living for Satan following our evil sinful natures. However, God so rich in his mercy loved us and gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead and we are now seated with him in heavenly realms. God saved you by his special favour when you believed. Salvation is not a reward for good works or deeds, that way we cannot boast about it. We are God’s masterpiece. He created us anew in Christ.
We used be outsiders, the Jews were proud of their circumcised bodies, but their hearts were not right with God. We had no hope until Christ himself made peace between the Jews and us by making us all one people. Now both Jews and Gentiles may come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us. We are now members of God’s family. We are his house built on the foundation of apostles and prophets and the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. The Gentiles are a part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit. God’s secret plan was revealed to Paul which is that the Gentiles have equal share with the Jews in all the riches inherited by God’s children. Paul was given the opportunity to reveal this plan to everyone. Because of Christ and our faith in him we can now come fearlessly into God’s presence, assured of his glad welcome.
Paul’s prayer is that God will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. That Christ will be more and more at home in our hearts. May we understand how deep God’s love really is for us. May we experience the love of Christ even if we don’t fully understand it. All glory be to God, may he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
We need to be patient with others, making allowances for their faults. We are one body, we have the same Spirit and we have been called together for the same glorious future. There is only God, one faith and one baptism. When Jesus ascended from the earth He gave these gifts to God’s people, the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people do his work and build up the church. We will grow and mature and not believe the lies that are fed to us. Each part of the body has its own special work to do, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
We must throw away our evil nature and spiritually renew our thoughts and attitudes. We need to display our new nature because we are new people. Don’t sin by letting anger gain control over you. Let everything you say be good and helpful. Do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander and be kind to one another just, as God through Christ has forgiven you.
We are God’s children so we need to follow his example in everything that we do. Christ loved us and died on the cross for us so we need to live a life filled with love for others. We cannot have sin in our lives, no greed, don’t take part in immorality, be apart of obscene stories or anything impure; as those types of people will not inherit the Kingdom of God. We need to live in this world but we are not to take part in the sinful activities of the world. Be wise in how you live don’t act foolishly. Don’t be drunk with wine, as that will ruin your life. Let the Holy Spirit fill you and control you.
Wives submit to your husbands, let them be the head of the household. Husbands love your wives with the same love that Christ loved the church. When a husband loves his wife, he is loving and caring for his own body. Christ cares for his body, which is the church, and we are his body.
Children obey your parents, aside from that being a commandment and reasonable logic, it is followed by a promise that we will live a long life. My relationship with my parents has been mediocre, there hasn’t been anything bad about it just nothing to shout to world how wonderful it has been either. It’s something that I’m still dealing at the age of 50 as I know the right thing to do is to honour my parents and as much as I try I don’t always succeed.
I going to relate slaves and masters to employees and employers, as an employee I can say that I have been exemplary in my work and rewarded as such, and at other times not so much. It really is a two-way street both employees should work to the best of their abilities and employers should not take advantage of their employees.
Put on the amour of God. Use it to resist evil at all times.
- The Sturdy belt of truth
- The body amour of God’s righteousness
- Shoes of peace that comes from the good news.
- Faith as your shield to stop fiery arrows
- Salvation as your helmet
- The sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.
- Pray at all times, be persistent.
When we put all these things together we can fight the enemy, however, as we are growing we may start with one and add more as our faith and understanding of God’s word grows. I know over the years my faith has enlarged a great deal compared to what it was when I started in my Christian walk. It was through trials and testing that my faith grew, it’s not something that magically happened overnight.
Oh Lord, you chose us to be your children long before we even existed. Your love for us is overwhelming and at times we do not have the comprehension to truly understand the magnitude of your love. All, I can say is thank you, thank you that you love me. I pray that as I seek your word that I will grow in understanding, that as I exercise my faith it will grow more and more. I pray that I will wear your armour at all times and be an example of your love to the people who cross my path. I pray for continued favour with my employer and that I will be an example of your goodness while I’m at work. I thank you that I had the privilege of being raised by godly parents I ask that you will be with them at all times. Amen.
