Still journeying through the book of Romans…
There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. How much do we ache to hear those words yet, still go on condemning ourselves? This is one lesson that I personally keep having to relearn, relearn and relearn. When we let our sinful nature control our minds there is death, but when we allow the Holy Spirit to control our minds we have life and peace. God causes everything to work for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Nothing can separate us from God’s love, death can’t, life can’t and even the powers of hell cannot keep God’s love away.
Who are we to judge who God chooses to be his own people? He chose Abraham and promised him a son; Isaac was born, and then chose Jacob above Esau before they were even born. Just like the potter chooses which clay to mould and which pot to keep and which pot to discard, God has the right to choose which people he loves. He originally chose the Israelites but it was after their unbelief that God chose the Gentiles to be his own people because they believed in him.
Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. Salvation is for everyone who believes but not everyone will believe. The Jews rejected God so he made his Salvation available to the Gentiles. This doesn’t mean that the Jews can’t come back to God, they can and it will be even better for them than the Gentiles to be accepted back to God.
Look after the bodies that God has given us. Don’t let the world transform you, instead let God transform you. We are all a part of the body of Christ and we all have our own special work to do that is different to everyone else. God has given us the ability to do certain things that others cannot do, and we cannot do what they can do.
Don’t pretend to love other but really love them. Hate what is wrong, stand on the side of the good. Live in harmony with people, don’t act important, but enjoy the company of ordinary people and definitely don’t think you know it all.
Do not avenge yourselves, allow God to take vengeance on your behalf. Instead feed your enemies, who are hungry, give the thirsty something to drink and they will be ashamed of what they have done to you.
Have respect for authority and the government, God has placed them for a purpose and we should obey the laws of the land and pay our taxes.
Love covers all the commandments, if we love our neighbour we will not have the desire to do any wrong to anyone, will not want to murder, covet or steal.
Accept Christians where they are at in their walk. Some are still young and weak; don’t argue with them about what is right and wrong. For example some will think its right to eat anything but others will think its right to only eat vegetables. Those who think it is right to eat anything must not look down on those who won’t. Those who won’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted all of us. We don’t have the right to judge, only God can judge. We all have our personal convictions but we must not force them on others everyone is at a different stage with their walk with God. God will deal with us each individually.
With God’s help who gives us patience and encouragement, may we live in complete harmony with each other, may we live with each other with the attitude of Christ Jesus toward each other. Accept each other just as Christ accepted you. Christ came as a servant to the Jews to show that God was true to his promises to their ancestors. Christ came so the Gentiles might give glory to God for his mercies to them.
Lookout for people who cause division within the church with false teachings, those people are not serving Christ but their own personal interests. Using smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people. Soon the God peace will crush Satan under his foot. The gospel is to be told to everyone, including all Gentiles so everyone might believe and obey Christ. To God, who alone is wise, be the glory forever through Jesus Christ. Amen.
Lord Jesus, I thank you that is no condemnation to those of us who belong to you. I thank God that we all have the privilege of becoming your child. I pray that we can live together and work together in harmony and be an example of your love to everyone. You have accepted everyone, we are all at different stages in our walk with you. Instead of judging others help us to love and guide each other. Help us to be aware of false teachings and guard our hearts against them. Help us to become more like you. In Jesus name. Amen.
